Question:

wife has bmw 328i sedan, 2011 and wants to put on a bike rack and needs a hitch. Plan to get draw-tite 24857. Need adapter and plan to get Maxtow MT70355. Does hitch extend enough that this adapter has sufficient clearance? Thanks.

The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24857 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2011 BMW 328i Sedan. This is a Class I trailer hitch that will provide a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. I have included the installation details that you can look over.

Then for a hitch adapter that will expand the receiver opening to 2 inches, I recommend the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HT5R. This is very similar to the MaxxTow MT70355 you referenced, however the MaxxTow is only compatible with Class II trailer hitches. The Draw-Tite Class I trailer hitch for your BMW has a built-in stopper inside the receiver that will prevent a higher class accessory like this one from fitting properly. The Brophy Hitch Adapter is compatible with Class I trailer hitches and features a 5 inch rise. Keep in mind that the use of this or any similar adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50%. This means the 200 pound tongue weight on the Draw-Tite hitch will be reduced to 100 pounds when using the adapter.

I went out to the warehouse to look at the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver and measured a distance of 30-1/4 inches from where the hitch will attach to the BMW frame cross member to the hitch receiver opening. I recommend measuring out this distance from the frame cross member on your vehicle so you can see exactly where the receiver will sit to ensure proper clearance. I have attached a couple of images that clarify this dimension and installation location.
