Determining the Axle Capacity of a 2 Inch Square Trailer Axle
Question:
I am looking at a 5x8 utility trailer and trying to figure out the load capacity. The trailer has a 2inch square tube axle with 5 lug 12inch tires. Any idea what the load capacity of the axle may be?

The only way to know for sure is to find a stamp or plate somewhere on the axle with its capacity. If this isn't available you can use the bearing numbers to determine which spindles the trailer has and we can determine the capacities of the hubs that will fit.
Another possible thing to check is if the axle has brake flanges how many bolt holes does the flange have? a 4 bolt flange it's likely a 3,500 pound axle or smaller. A 5 bolt flange is usually a 4,400 pound axle or larger.
