How to Select the Correct Hub to Change Out a 4 on 9.44 Inch Bolt Circle Wheels with 5 on 4-1/2

Question:

I have an older trailer with 4 bolt 9.44 bolt circle Hubei and wheels. I want to upgrade to 5 x4.5 hub configuration so I can get better rims and balance the tires. 3500 pound axle with 10 drums. I have measured the axle diameters bearing and seal diameters and they match your 3500 pound spindle numbers and the bearing diameter specs. Will a standard 1750 pound hub and drum fit. I am concerned about the spacing of the bearings in the hub. Thx.

It sounds as if you have taken all of the correct measurements to determine the correct hub and drum assembly for your trailer. Normally the spacing of the bearings is not an issue, as long as the axle used on the trailer is not an Agricultural axle or a mobile home axle.

The Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly, item # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K, is designed to be used with the EZ Lube Spindle for 3,500 lb axle, item # TRU74FR. The dimensions of this spindle are as follows.

Seal diameter - 1.73 inches
Inner Bearing diameter - 1.38 inches
Outer bearing diameter - 1.06 inches

If the dimensions on your axle match these dimensions then the 1750 lbs # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K hub assembly should work fine on your trailer. If not let me know the measurements you have taken and we can try to find the correct hub and drum assembly for your trailer.

If you cannot come up with a hub and drum assembly that will fit your trailer we do have wheels to match your 4 bolt 9.44 bolt circle. I have added a link to all of the vintage replacement wheels that we carry for you to review.
