Brake Controller Wiring Instructions for a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Z82
Question:
Is z82 also correct for 2011 silv chevy
asked by: Charles C
Expert Reply:
The Z82 is a trailer towing package installed by GM the manufacturer of the 2011 Chevrolet, Silverado.
If you are installing a brake controller on the 2011 Chevrolet, Silverado, and it does not have a factory integrated brake controller, you will only need a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy, item # 90885, that you mentioned. We have a video, see link, that details this installation and shows where to find the wires that are needed to splice to the wires on the brake controller.
If your truck has that factory integrated brake controller, and you wish to install an aftermarket model for towing a trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes, we have an informational article, see link, that details the installation in this situation.
Finally, if your truck is not equipped with the towing package you will need the Twist-in, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector, item # PK11916, at the rear of the vehicle. You will also need to make some wire connections under the hood, see photo at right. We also have an article showing where these wires are located and how to connect them. You will also need two nuts for under hood wire attachment. The M6-1.0 Flange Nut, item # 185916, and the M8-1.25 Flange Nut, item # 185917, are the correct fasteners.
