Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2006 Honda CR-V to Tow Motorcycle Trailer

Question:

Hi, I have a Kendon motorcycle trailer that I am looking to tow with my 2006 FWD Honda CR-V. It say it recommends at least a class 2 hitch. I am looking at the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Hitch 75690 and the Curt Class III Hitch 13535. I want to know if you can recommend which hitch I should purchase for the trailer I provided... Will trailer height issue be an issue for either of these two hitches? For the Kendon motorcycle trailer, it says trailer height is 19-21, requires a 2inch ball, and coupler ball size: 2 Thanks

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75690 referenced in your question is a great choice and is the hitch I recommend for your 2006 Honda CR-V. This is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will provide a 2 inch receiver opening with a 3,500 pound towing capacity. I do also recommend verifying the vehicle's towing capacity as listed in the owner's manual, as this will likely be the limiting factor.

Based on the 19-21 inch hitch height of the trailer, you may simply need to use a ball mount with a bit of a rise in order to tow the trailer level. When installing this trailer hitch on the 2005 CR-V, we measured a distance of 14-3/4 inches from the ground to the top of the hitch receiver. To determine the exact rise you will need, you will want to measure from the ground to the top of the receiver on your 2006 once installed, as well as from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on your trailer. You will then choose a ball mount with the necessary rise or drop to fill the difference between the two measurements.

Going with an adjustable ball mount like the Buyers Products # 3371802225 might be a good idea. This will provide a maximum rise or drop of 6 inches and includes the 2 inch hitch ball needed for the trailer's coupler. I have also included a link that will take you to our available selection of ball mounts for you to look through.

Then to install a 4-Pole Flat trailer connector on your CR-V needed to power the trailer's signal lights, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118336. The T-One connector will plug directly into existing wiring behind the driver side trim panel. I have attached an installation video on your CR-V for you to check out.

I have also included a couple towing articles that you might find helpful.
