Adding Electric Brakes to 1977 Scamp Trailer with Lippert Torsion Axle

Question:

We just got a new axle for our 1977 13 ft scamp that we ordered from Scamp trailers itself. The axle is a Lippert Components torsion axle serial number 045 004310962. What options do we have for adding breaks to our scamp with this axle

I spoke with my contact at Lippert regarding the new axle on your 1977 Scamp Trailer. This axle has a weight capacity of 2,000 pounds.

First, if you do not already have them installed on your trailer, you will need compatible hub and drum assemblies. The etrailer.com Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-2-2K with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern will fit the spindles on this axle. The hubs use the inner and outer bearing # L44649. The bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap and lug nuts are all included.

Then for electric brake assemblies, I recommend the etrailer.com # AKEBRK-2R for the Right Hand and # AKEBRK-2L for the Left Hand. These 7 inch brake assemblies use a 4 bolt mounting flange and are compatible with 10 inch, 12 inch and 13 inch wheels.

I have attached video demonstrations on the products mentioned as well as an article on adding electric brakes that you may find helpful.
