Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Electric Brake Controller to 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question:

There is no square plug behind the installed 4-pin connector rather, it is hardwired all the way to the connector behind the left tail light. As a result, theres no way for HM40975-11933 to work. Essentially what I need to do is have access to a 7-pole and a 4-pin on my Jeep to pull two different kinds of trailer. I would like to keep them together if possible which it why I was looking at the Pollock 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket to begin with. I guess Im back to square one. Would appreciate some assistance.

Since your 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has the factory tow package there should be a square plug for the Pollak # HM40975-11933 to plug into. This will work well to supply a 7-way trailer connector. If you need to run wiring to install a brake controller use # 5506.

If you don't have the square connector you'll first need to add a 4-way using # 118416 and then convert that 4-way to a 7-way using our # ETBC7 kit. This includes the 7-way and everything you need for an electric brake controller other than the controller itself.

The controller I recommend is the Prodigy P3 # 90195. It's one of the top of the line controllers that has an LCD screen and 5 storable settings. It can also be mounted anyway within its vertical plane. It'll hardwire into your Jeep. I've linked a video that shows the install using the # ETBC7 kit. If you don't need the kit the installation of the controller will be very similar only the wiring will already be present in the Jeep and you'll need to find the correct circuits and connect them.

Since you don't have the facotry connector for the Hopkins # HM40975-11933 to connect to then you'll instead use our # ETBC7 kit. You'll use your exising 4-way and the wiring included in the kit to give you both trailer connectors, very similar to the Hopkins. I've attached a picture that shows the 4-way and 7-way of the # ETBC7 up close. I've also kept the link that shows the Prodigy P3 # 90195 brake controller being installed with the # ETBC7 so you can see all of it.
