Finding 12 Volt Wire On 2011 Ford Expedition To Install Prodigy P2 Brake Controller w/ Ford Adapter
Question:
My new Expedition came w/the trailer tow pkg. Ive got the trailer break lead,and verified the 12v charging lead has the relay in the power control box under the hood and it switches on w/the ignition. Do you have any schematics for the battery charging wire that would show if it is in a wire loom in the back of the vehicle and what color wire it might be? I just received the controller and the 7-pin adapter plug. Very impressed w/your quick service and quality. Thank you

I see that you have ordered the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Proportional Brake Controller # 90885 and the Ford Adapter # 3035-P. The OEM brake controller plug that the Ford adapter plugs into should be located under the dash to the right of the steering column, and may be tucked up and out of the way (see video link). You will want to use a circuit tester, part # 3808 to test the brake controller plug pins for power. If there is not power to the pins, you will need to hard-wire the brake controller.
If there is power to the OEM brake controller plug you can use the Ford Adapter # 3035-P and locate the Blue and Black wire that you referenced. To connect the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole, part # 37185, you will need to locate the Blue and Black wire which should be terminated along the driver side frame rail. The Blue wire is the brake controller output wire and sends power to the brakes. The Black wire is the 12 volt power wire that you referenced. The White wire is the ground and should be connected to the vehicles frame. The purple wire can be connected to the reverse light circuit of the vehicle if your trailer has reverse lights, otherwise it can be taped off and tucked out of the way.
If you cannot locate where the Blue and Black wire terminate you will need to run wire from part # 37185 to the front of the vehicle. You will need to use Jacketed 2 Wire, part # 10-2-1 to run the Blue wire and Black wire to the front of the vehicle. Connect the Black wire of part # 37185 to the Black wire of the Jacketed 2 Wire and run to the battery. You will connect the Black wire to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker, part # PK54540. Then you will connect the Blue wire of # 37185 to the White wire of the Jacketed 2 wire and splice to the Blue wire of the Ford Adapter which runs between the brake controller and OEM brake controller plug.
If there is not power to the brake controller plug under the dash, you will need to hard-wire the brake controller into your 2011 Ford Expedition. To do so you will need the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7.
