Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For Bike Rack On 2017 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid

Question:

I want to purchase a tow hitch strictly to use for my Yakima Highlite Bicycle rack for 2 bikes. I see that you have 2inch hitches in a Curt C13149, as well as etrailer e98864, and Drawtite 76134. You also have a 1 1/4inch hitch in Curt C12108. My rack is a 1 1/4inch which also has a 2inch adapter mounted on it, so I can use it with any size hitch. I want one that mounts without any cutting of Fascia as some of your directions seem to indicate??? Since Toyota says we should not tow anything with a 2017Rav4 Hybrid, I really will only use it for the bicycles. Which one would you recommend for my purpose and would have the least in your face appearance issues once mounted. I realize that none of them are truly hidden. Thanks

For your 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # e98864. This hitch will not require you to trim any visible parts like fascia, but may require trimming or removal of underbody panel. This will give you a 2 inch hitch that you can also use with a cargo carrier if you so desire or other accessory options. The main reason why I recommend this hitch for your bike rack is because it does not require a stabilization strap like the Curt hitches do. This will give you a much cleaner look with your bike rack installed and will give you a stronger and sturdier hitch. This hitch doesn't really give you more or less of a visual appearance issue when the bike rack is not installed, but it does have a nice matte black finish that I think looks better than the others.

We do also have the EcoHitch Hitch # 306-X7219 and the Curt # C13406 that both have concealed crosstubes, but they do require trimming for installation. I would still recommend going with the etrailer hits # e98864, it isn't "in your face" at all once installed.
