Question:

I am trying to figure out the requirements for a weight distribution system w/sway control to use with my Ford F350 crew cab long bed dually that is equipped with Townies towing pkg 6.0 diesel Wheelbase 172 GVWR 13000 Front GAWR 5600 Rear GAWR 9000 Axle ratio is 4.30 Tow rated for 18k GVWR 26k pulling... 2009 Keystone Sprinter 311BHS travel trailer Hitch weight 1025 Dry 8140 GVWR 11185 I thought I read somewhere that the WD system tongue weight rating should be as close to w/o going over your trailer hitch weight? If that correct? Help! There are so many to choose from! Thanks in advance!

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

So your tongue is realistically going to be anywhere between 1,000 and 1,400 lbs most likely.

The Reese Trunnion System part # RP66131 would be a great option as it has a tongue weight range of 800 lbs - 1,500 lbs. You will then need a shank to go with it so for that the # RP63971 would be a great option.
