The Curt trailer hitch # 13229 is a great value for your 2007 Dodge Dakota and is more than capable of towing a rental trailer. The hitch is rated for 500 pounds tongue weight and 5,000 pounds gross trailer weight. Compare that to the truck's towing capacity (in the owner's manual) and go by whichever rating is lower; the hitch or the truck.

Uhaul requires a hitch on the vehicle as well as a functional trailer wiring harness. You can add a 4-Way flat trailer connector using # 118323. The 4-Way flat controls the basic lighting functions on the trailer.

Since you plan on doing some towing I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
