Grease and Gun Recommendation for Sailboat Trailer that is Bio-Based

Question:

Hello need help with wheel bearing grease and grease guns. I have a small boat trailer 14 ft sailboat, no motor, rarely used. I live in HOT hot climate though I dont trailer far, so all parts are always hot. I dont trailer to salt water, only fresh. I replaced and packed bearings myself years ago and use Bearing Buddies with your blue Lubrimatic marine grease exclusively since the bearings were new. However, the grease and grease guns I have used have been a pain. Grease guns, several different kinds, tend to leak blue grease out of the bottom where the plunger pulls back. Its as if the grease easily weeps around the seals in the gun. For same reason, its hard to get my grease guns to catchinch it to start triggering/pumping into the bearing. Its like th eblue grease leaks around the plunger at the bottom rather than going up into the top to come out the fitting. Slowly, I have burned through most of the 16-oz tub, but with great amounts of mess and swearing for each top-off of these tiny bearings. My questions for you: - I think Id like to switch to a different grease but want to know what would be easier to handle and clean, if anything. Because I use such small quantities, cost is not as much of an issue as ease of handling. Also, crucially, I really do not want to have to remove and strip down the bearings again to pack with new kind of grease. It was hard enough to do the first time. If I never replace a bearing again in my life I will be OK with that. - I like the idea of biobase grease. I store this stuff in the same backyard that kids and pets play in. Would a product like LMX red grease be less likely to leak? Would bio-based grease mix acceptably with the calcium sulfonate-based marine grease? - Can you recommend a grease-gun setup that will not leak in the ways Ive described, will be easier to pack, cleaner to handle? Thanks.

The LMX Red grease is basically the best grease you can put in a trailer hub. The part # L11390 is also bio-based so it's easier on the environment so that's nice as well.

The grease gun part # L30416 is going to be a great option for a gun. This is the nicest one we offer and the price isn't terrible so it would be the one I would recommend. All of the reviews we have for it from our customers show that they really like it too.

It's also compatible with the marine grease you already have in the hubs so there would be no need to remove it all prior but that would still be the best way to do it.
