Hello, I want to purchase a bike rack that will hold two 40 lb bikes for my 2017 Chev Cruise Hatchback. Which model do you recommend? Saris? Thank you,

I may have a solution for you, however the available trunk-mount bike racks for your Chevrolet Cruze are all designed for the Sedan model and not the Hatchback like what you have. Also, the maximum weight capacity on the trunk-mount bike racks available is limited to 35 pounds per bike.

To transport your two bikes, I recommend first installing a trailer hitch like the Curt Class I # C11458 onto your Chevrolet Cruze. Once installed, this will give you a Class I, 1-1/4 inch receiver opening on your vehicle to use with a hitch-mounted bike rack. This trailer hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds, although I also recommend checking the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle as listed in the owner's manual. Keep in mind that per Curt warranty, all non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers should be supported by stabilizing straps # 18050.

I have attached the installation details for you to review.

Then for a hitch-mounted bike rack to transport your bikes, I recommend the Swagman Chinook 2 Bike Platform Rack # S64683. This 2 bike platform style rack has a weight capacity of 45 pounds per bike and can secure wheel bases of up to 50 inches and tire widths up to 3 inches. My favorite feature of this rack is its ability to tilt down with the bikes still loaded for easy rear cargo access. The rack also includes locks to secure both the rack to your vehicle and the bikes to the rack.

I have attached a video demonstration of this product for you to check out as well as a link that will take you to our available hitch-mounted bike racks that are compatible with Class I hitches.
