Recommendation for a Winch That Will Lift 500 Lbs 16 Feet Off the Ground for a Long Period of Time

Question:

I need a winch to vertically raise and lower approximately 500 lbs. to about 16foot high. Once the load is at full height it will remain there for a couple of months so it needs to lock down well to keep the load from slipping. I also need it to have a brake to hold the load in place as it goes up and down. Can you recommend something that will do the job?

The Dutton-Lainson Freewheeling Brake Winch # DL14993 is a light duty hand winch with a 1,200 lbs lift capacity. This winch has a self-locking brake that will provide additional safety and control while lifting.

The Dutton-Lainson winch also includes an automatic friction brake that will supply a positive holding action with load on cable. This means the with the minimum 50 lbs on the winch, the load will stay in place at any time the handle is released. the load will only move when the winch handle is engaged.

I also recommend using Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 7/32" Diameter x 50' Long, # DL24045. This cable is rated up to 2,500 lbs and is the confirmed cable to be used in the Dutton-Lainson hand winch.
