Wiring a Brake Controller for Use in A 2007 Ford Expedition and a 1996 Rexhal Motor Home
Question:
Need a solution for two vehicles using one controller. I have a 2007 Ford expedition and a Rexhal motorhome on a 1996 ford F-53 frame. I wish to use a single controller with mounts and wiring installed in two vehicles, swap out when needed. Please provide what I will need to ensure I can install wiring and mount in two vehicles and swap one controller to the vehicle when needed. I was looking at teh prodigy and the extra mount advertised on the site. I am not sure of the wiring so I am asking for your assistance. Thank you

You have selected the item that I would recommend with the proper wiring. When you get the P2 Proportional Brake Controller # 90885 there will be a connector in the brake controller box with blunt cut ends to attach to your Rexhal Motor home and the Tekonsha Wire Replacement for Ford, item # 3035-P will be used on your Expedition.
You would then need to determine the wiring for your motor home. If the motor home is set up with trailer wiring, you may also need the Universal Brake Control Wiring Adapter Ford, item # 3035-S, to connect to the connector under the dash of the motor home. You would simply splice this connector to the connector supplied in the box with the P2 controller.
If your Rexhal motor home on a 1996 Ford F-53 frame is not set up with trailer wiring then you will need to hard wire the motor home to use the brake controller. You will need an appropriate length of double bonded 10 gauge wire, item # 10-2-1, and a 20 amp or 30 amp circuit breaker, item # PK54520 or # PK54530, to connect the Black and white wire from the brake controller to the vehicle battery. Connect the white wire to the ground stud, then connect the black with through the proper sized circuit breaker, see brake controller instructions, to the positive battery post.
Next, you will need a circuit tester, item # PTW2993, to locate the brake light switch wire behind the brake pedal. You will need to find the wire that has a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed. Splice the red wire from the brake controller harness to this circuit.
Finally, run an appropriate length of 10 gauge blue wire, item # 10-1-1, from the brake controller harness blue wire to the 7-Way or 6-Way trailer connector at the rear of the motor home.
You will need to order a Mounting Pocket for Tekonsha Prodigy, item # 7686, for one of the two vehicles also. One mounting pocket is included with the P2.
We have a article detailing how to hard wire a brake controller and all of the parts needed, see link. I have also linked a faq page on wiring that shows where the brake feed wire should be attached inside the connector at the rear of the vehicle, the 6-Way and 7-Way connectors are about 1/2 way down the page. I also linked a brake controller installation video for a 2011 expedition and a 1979 F-250, the Expedition video will help with your Expedition and the F-250 Video will help if you need to hard wire the motor home.
