Should Tongue Weight Figure Be Determined with Trailer Loaded for Picking Out Weight Distribution

Question:

Trying to figure out how to load trailer. The r pod 189 seems to have the trailer wheels far back. TV is a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk with tow package. Tow weight 4500#, HItch 450#. R pod dry 3000#, Max 3759# Hitch weight 297. Before two batteries and Propane tank full. Do I load trailer then weigh tounge. Worry about how much is in the front of wheels. With Fast way E2 do I worry less about how trailer is loaded. Confused

Helpful Expert Reply:

Typically when loading a trailer you want the tongue weight of the setup to be between 10 and 15 percent of the total trailer weight as that will give you the best ride quality.

When determining the tongue weight for picking out a weight distribution system you have to go with the weight of the total setup once it is loaded completely and ready to tow. Not to confuse you any further but you have to also consider the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle as tongue weight as well.

The max tongue weight of the # FA94-00-0800 that you referenced is 800 lbs and the minimum is 400 lbs. This most likely will be perfect for your setup once totally loaded.
