To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

Trailer tongue weight alone is usually 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. So on a trailer that weighs 8,700 pounds that would be a tongue weight of 870 to 1,305 pounds. Based on this a 1,000 pound tongue weight capacity system may not be rated properly for the trailer.

If the total tongue ends up being between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds then I recommend Blue Ox Sway Pro system # BXW1506. But if it ends up being between 750 and 1,000 pounds # BXW1000 is the way to go. For either system you would need to add a ball, # C40086 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. I have linked some helpful articles on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.
