Dirt Bike Carrier and Ramp Recommendation for 2014 Subaru Crosstrek

Question:

I have a 295 pound dirt bike. I own a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. Is there a motorcycle ramp hitch and receiver combo that could haul my dirt bike? Thanks.

There are a couple of ways to carry your 295 lb dirt bike with your 2014 Subaru Crosstrek.

A hitch carrier like the Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier, part # UF48-979033 will physically fit in a trailer hitch for your vehicle. However, I took a look at the owner's manual for your Crosstrek and found that the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle is 200 lbs, so I cannot recommend going this route as this would exceed your vehicle's limitations. The tongue weight is the weight that is pushing down on your trailer hitch and the rear of your vehicle.

The safest way to carry your dirt bike with your Crosstrek is to tow a trailer. Your vehicle's towing capacity is 1,500 lbs. You will need a few things in order to do this.

First, if you do not already have a trailer hitch installed on your Crosstrek, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame # 76084. This is a custom fit trailer hitch which eliminates the need for drilling during installation because it uses existing holes in your vehicle's frame. I have attached an installation video for you to check out.

Next you will need a ball mount to use with your trailer hitch. Choosing the correct ball mount will depend on the trailer you are towing, so I have provided a link that takes you to our selection as well as a helpful article on the subject.

Lastly, you will need a wiring harness like the Curt T-Connector # C56040 to power the rear lights on your trailer. This is a custom fit harness that plugs directly into existing wiring on your vehicle. I have included an installation video on a 2014 Crosstrek for your review.
