Fastway Weight Distribution Recommendation for Towing 21 ft Trailer on 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Question:

I have a 21 foot travel trailer with an empty weight of 3850 and tongue weight of 450. The max weight of the trailer is just under 5000 pounds and im trying to decide what hitch to go with. Im looking at the fastway e2 hitch, would you recommend the 600/6000 or 800/8000

When choosing a weight distribution system we first want to calculate the total tongue weight of your setup. This will be the sum of both your fully loaded trailer's tongue weight and also the weight of anything stored behind the rear axle of your vehicle. This total number should fall somewhere in the middle of the weight range capacity of the weight distribution system you choose.

For your 21 foot trailer with an empty tongue weight of 450 lbs, we can estimate and add around 200 lbs that will be coming from behind the rear axle of your 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. This brings us to 650 lbs of total tongue weight. With this in mind, I recommend going with the Fastway e2 8K Weight Distribution, part # FA94-00-0800. This is a great product with built in, 2-point sway control and a tongue weight capacity range of 400-800 lbs. This is an ideal range and will give us some needed room to work with since the above calculation was based on an empty trailer tongue weight. I have provided a video review of this product for you to look at.

You will also need to check your vehicle's trailer hitch to assure it can both accept weight distribution systems and also its tongue weight capacity to make sure you will be able to safely tow your trailer.

The only other thing you will need is the correct sized hitch ball, part # 63840.
