Can Sidewinder Clearance Formula Be Used For Ranch Hitch?

Question:

Could I use the formula for the sidewinder cab clearance, for the ranch offset hitch to see if I would gain enough clearance for my 05 gmc crewcab short bed truck? Thanks

The Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter w/8" Offset for Short-Bed Trucks, # AM3139, will be very different than a sidewinder application. A sidewinder will move the pivot point by having a secure point in the bed of the truck and a rotating turret 22 inches rearward.

The Ranch hitch gives a secure point at the king pin of your trailer, but does not move the turning point. It is simply an offset giving you 8 inches more clearance and makes your 5th wheel trailer move like a gooseneck trailer. This is a very different application, so the sidewinder formula will not work. The trailer will only give you 8 inches more clearance which will give you a few degrees greater turning, but you will still need to be careful so your trailer doesn't make contact with your truck cab.
