Replacement Parts for Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System

Question:

I recently purchased a travel trailer that came with what appears to be a Reese straight line weight distributing system. It appears to have the sway mechanism and chain/adapter plate on the trailer but does not have the long bars or the hitch adapter. Are these components available for purchase separately? If you can send me an e-mail address I can send a photo of what I have along with vehicle and trailer info. Thanks,

We do carry replacement parts for weight distribution systems like the excellent Reese Straight-Line systems such as # RP66083. It sounds like you have everything except the trunnion spring bars and the shank, which is what fits into your hitch receiver and holds the head assembly.

I linked our page for Reese trunnion spring bars. The type you need has a bend in the trailer end, such as # RP58369. You will want to select two bars based on your fully-loaded trailer's actual measured tongue weight. We offer a scale # e99044 that makes measurement easy. Your TW figure includes the trailer's own TW plus the weight of anything in the tow vehicle that will sit behind the rear axle, such as a loaded cooler or generator. This weight acts like TW so it needs to be included.

You will want to choose a pair of spring bars rated so that your total TW figure falls right in the middle of their operating range. For example, two of bar # RP23227 would be ideal for a total TW of 400-lbs, which is the middle of their operating range.

The other linked page will display all 2-inch Reese WD shanks. You can select the one that provides the appropriate rise or drop to keep the hitched trailer level.

Please feel free to email me back if you have any other questions.
