Product Comparison Thule T2 vs. Kuat Sherpa for a 2010 MINI Cooper

Question:

I am torn between Thule T2 and Kuat Sherpa. I installed a hitch MINI do more for my 2010 MINI Cooper non-S and cannot decide for sure which would be a better choice for my road bikes. Is the heft of Thule better for stability or should I put into consideration of rust in favor of Kuat? I would prefer to leave the unit on the car for the majority of the year as well.

For your 2010 Mini Cooper, I would recommend the lighter Kuat Sherpa, item # SH12G, bike rack over the Thule T2 Classic, item # TH9045, bike rack for several reasons.

First, the lighter weight of the Sherpa rack will allow you to safely carry heavier bikes on the rack. You will need to be sure that the total weight of the bikes, everything on them and the bike rack are within the tongue weight capacity of your Mini Cooper and hitch. Normally Class I hitches have a 200 pound tongue weight capacity.

Next, since you want to leave that bike rack on the vehicle the majority of the year, the Kuat Sherpa will resist rust and corrosion much better with all aluminum construction.

Finally, the Kuat Sherpa, in my opinion, has a better anti-rattle mechanism to keep the bike rack more stable and quiet in the hitch of your vehicle.

The Thule T2 rack is a high end rack and you would not be disappointed, but in your situation, I believe the Kuat rack will serve your purposes better.
