Loud Banging Noise Coming From the Hitch Area When Accelerating
Question:
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado 4.7 I had this hitch installed by a professional before i moved. During the move I would hear a loud banging sound while accellerating from a dead stop. I thought it was just the rental trailer. Now I just recently bought a boat and the same sound is happening. It sounds like the car is falling apart everytime it happens. Can you help me?

Assuming that the hitch was properly installed, what you are experiencing is most likely your drawbar moving around in the receiver. This is a fairly common occurrence, the drawbar is meant to fit fairly snug into the receiver, but differences in manufacturing tolerances can allow for some movement. Using a cushioned ballmount like part # AMSC2 would help eliminate most of the noise you are experiencing. Cushioned Trailer Hitch Ballmounts protect the towing vehicle drive-line, hitch assembly and trailer contents by reducing the bangs and slams caused by starting, stopping and traveling over unpaved surfaces. Cushioned ballmounts act as a shock absorber and are also proven effective in reducing bounce and rhythmic vibrations.
