Installing a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with 4-Way Trailer Connector

Question:

I have a 2003 Dodge ram 1500 w/tow package that I added a Pilot electric brake controller and a Hopkins 7 pin trailer plug #47185 to. I grounded the white wire to the frame and plugged the 4 pin connectors together as per the instructions. It did not say to connect any of the other wires purple, Brown or blue to anything. And the Electric brake control I just plugged it into the wire harness. The service adviser I bought the items from also said that all I needed to do is plug everything into the plugs and it would work. I drove 3 hrs to get my trailer only to find out that the electric brake was not working the trailers brakes. Everything else was working. What do I need to do... How do I test the EBC without driving 3 hrs one way..? Can send pics later if needed

The remaining wires from the 4- to 7-Way adapter # 37185 will need to be hardwired in to your 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 to make the 7-Way fully functional. The blue wire is for electric brakes, black is for 12 volt power, and purple is for reverse lights. Any function not needed by the trailer does not have to be connected.

I recommend wiring kit # 5506 because it comes with the wire you will need, butt connectors, ring terminals and a 40 amp circuit breaker (among others) for the 12 volt circuit. The blue wire will go to the brake controller blue wire and the black wire will go to the positive battery terminal via the 40 amp circuit breaker.

You can follow the relevant parts of the ETBC7 installation instructions and video I have linked for you for this installation.
