Recommended Trailer Coupler For Trailer Tongue That Is 2-1/2 inches Wide
Question:
Hi, I am having trouble finding a coupler for my trailer. It has a tongue width of 2.5inch and the bolt holes are 2.5inch center to center, and I would be fine with a 2inch or 1-7/8inch ball size for the coupler. I feel like no one makes couplers in this size, all I have been able to find is 2.25inch spacing between bolt holes. Someone has to make one in the sizes I need because the trailer currently has that coupler on it.

The closest we come to the 2-1/2 inch center to center measurement of the mounting holes you have on your coupler and trailer are 2-1/4 inches, just as you said you have found.
The trailer coupler I recommend is part # CT-2002-Z. This is a 2,000-lb coupler that works with a 1-7/8 inch ball and the mounting holes are 2-1/4 inches apart. With the holes on your trailer tongue you would only be off by 1/8 inch on each. You could ream the holes a fraction and use this coupler.
You can have a coupler welded on as an alternative. This is a zinc finish and because welding zinc produces toxic fumes, the job should be done by a welding professional that is familiar with zinc welding.
