Trailer Hitch Extended Ball Mount For F-250 Towing Lance Camper With 24-Inch Overhang

Question:

I have a F250 short box with a Lance camper that has a 24inch overhang. I want to tow a trailer with a GVWR of about 7k lbs, maybe lighter. I know you can do a hitch extension, but would that just be to a ball mount? How could I secure the trailer better as you would with a weight distribution hitch?

The problem with using an extension on a trailer hitch is that adapters will reduce the towing and tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.

You can find ball mounts that are extended and do not reduce the capacity. We do offer extended ball mounts like part # C45270 that I recommend, and may work for you. This ball mount has a 2-inch rise or a 4-inch drop and measures 13-inches center of hitch pin hole to center of hitch ball hole. This ball mount has a 7,500-lb capacity.

For a ball mount that has a 3/4-inch rise or 2-inch drop and a 7,500-lb capacity and measures 15-3/4 inches I recommend part # D-26.

The hitch box extension you came from, part # RP45292 is designed to fit 2-1/2 inch receiver openings and reduces the receiver to a 2-inch opening for standard ball mounts and accessories. This extension has a capacity of 6,000-lbs at the 24-inch extension, and 4,500-lbs at the 34-inch extension.
I have attached a link to the long ball mounts we offer you can check out. Use the filters on the product page to find a ball mount that will work for you.
