Why Would Trailer Hitch Install Bolts be Hard to Thread Into Vehicle Frame
Question:
I finally got around to installing this on my 2005 Toyota Matrix XR - or trying to. The bolts seem too big for the frame weld nuts as in, noticeably too big, doesnt seem like a matter of rust or dirt. Any idea on what might work? I was sent fine-pitch M12 bolts, just as the packing list says. My next task is sitting in the hardware store parking lot trying out M10s etc. but Im wondering if youve seen this issue before.

It may not seem like rust or dirt but I can guarantee you there is something in the threads of the weld nut that isn't allowing the bolts to thread in. It doesn't take much to jam up the threads and prevent the bolts from threading in.
I have included a few links on hitch installation tips, cleaning weld nuts, and a video on cleaning weld nuts for you.
