Does Going with Higher Tire Capacity than Axle Capacity Gain Anything
Question:
Is buying a tire that has a max load rating over what the axles are rated for a bit of overkill? Kind of like the weakest link theory. I dont want to spend more than I have to to get a sufficient tire ... thanx!

You are absolutely correct in your thinking. Going with a tire that has more than needed capacity really doesn't gain you anything. Whatever the lowest rated component is in a towing setup is the overall capacity so going overkill on one portion of that does not gain you anything.
