Using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # C56349, will provide you with a great start to your 7-way.

To connect the Hopkins/Pollak 7-Pole and 4-Pole Connector, # HM40975-11998, to the Curt T-Connector, # C56282, you would have to first cut the green, yellow, and brown wires of the 4-way connector. Then, using the included butt connectors, you would match up the wires on the 4-way and also add the following from the Hopkins connector (Red to Yellow, Green to Green, Brown to Brown, White remains uncut and un-spliced).

Then, with the remaining wires from the Pollak harness, you will run White to a ground on the frame using the included ring terminal, and the Yellow wire from the 7-Pole is for reverse lights and often is unused, so you can tape it up and secure it out of the way. You will run the Black to the battery and the Blue to the brake controller at the dash. You will need some extra wire, a few circuit breakers and some attaching terminals. You can get these materials in a Draw-Tite wiring kit, # 5506. There is a way to make this slightly less complicated.

For an easier option, instead of installing the Hopkins Pollak 7-Pole and 4-Pole, # HM40975-11998, I'd recommend using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller 7-Way and 4-way Flat, # ETBC7. This will save you needing to splice your 4-way wiring and provide all the necessities for running the brake controller wires. This is a complete wiring kit for a brake controller. I've included a video to walk you through this step by step.

If you also want to purchase a brake controller for your 2017 Toyota Tacoma, I'd suggest the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, # 90195. This is an excellent proportional braking unit with everything you will need to haul a braking trailer. It has a continuous advanced diagnostic check that will alert you to any issues on the LCD screen so you won't have to be concerned with code deciphering.
