To install a brake controller on your 2016 Toyota Tacoma you will first need a 4-Way trailer connector # C56349 unless the truck already has one. Then you will need to install # ETBC7 which provides the 7-Way, wiring, and accessories that will be needed to hardwire in the brake controller.
I have included the best links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you. Since the ETBC7 is a hardwire install on any vehicle you could really watch any of the videos but I chose to link one on a 2009 Tacoma since it is closest to what you have.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.
