I am looking to purchase a lift gate assist and I am wondering if your system will work with my trailer, my concern is that the side rail Along the trailer that is 12 inches high angles down at the end and is 42 inches from the gate

Your side rail being 12 inches high is compatible with the Rackem assist part # RA-27C. Is it 12 inches high at the end of the trailer where it meets the tailgate/ramp? If so it would be fine in that regard.

The tailgate needs to be 44 inches from the floor of the trailer. Yours being 42 inches from the top of the railing would mean it would be compatible. That would mean yours is 54 inches from trailer bed.

What happens if you attach the quick link to one of the higher holes on the bracket that attaches to the ramp? That should get you more spring tension when the ramp is closer to being closed to help close it.
