How to Increase Ground Clearance on a Trailer
Question:
I have a 4x8 trailer that I am replacing the suspension and axle on. I want to make the body of the trailer higher off the ground so it does not continue to bottom out when pulling in and out of my drive way. I can't decide between a regular axle with springs or one of the axle-less systems. Regardless I need to get the trailer frame higher off the ground to avoid scraping when backing into my driveway. What is the best way to lift a trailer?

Since you measured 26-1/2 inches on your old springs you'll likely need 26 inch springs because they will sag and elongate as they wear. Yours are 6-Leaf so you'll need two of # e27SR which are rated for 4500 lbs. This is plenty for a trailer the size of yours.
We do not carry an axle that will fit your 4 foot trailer, so a new axle would need to be sourced locally. The good news here is right now you have a drop axle. Hence your clearance issue in your drive way. If you replace the drop axle with a straight axle you're going to gain 4 inches of clearance already. In addition to that, wherever you get the axle from can mount the spring seats on top of the axle and you can attach the springs above it giving you even more clearance.
Another option that you mentioned is an axle-less system like the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR3500S05. This is your easier solution since you will not need to source an axle because it will fit any trailer width. It will also give you more clearance than your drop axle does. If you would like even more clearance you may be interested in # ASR3500S06. This particular system has a 4 inch lift, so not only will it eliminate the drop from your drop axle but it will also give you an additional 4 inches.
