Adapter Recommendation to Install Brake Controller in a 2016 Mazda CX-9 with 4-Way

Question:

Hi, I purchased a tekonsha brake controller from etrailer years ago and it has served me well. We recently replaced our SUV and now have a 2016 Mazda CX-9 with the tow package hitch and flat 4 pin connector. We own a Fleetwood Coleman pop up trailer with electric brakes, and also has a heat exchanger fridge that can run off a 12 volt line. The trailer has a round 6 pin? connector. Can you guide me through what I need to upgrade my current setup to a proper hookup with brakes connected to the controller and a power supply for the fridge? Thanks,

To install your Tekonsha brake controller and activate the 12 volt accessory circuit you would need the part # ETBC7. This kit comes with everything needed to convert the 4-way to a 7-way and install the brake controller. Most likely your Fleetwood uses a 7-way and not a 6-way since the RV world almost exclusively uses 7-ways and the agricultural world uses 6-ways. When you counted the pins did you count 6 on the outside and then a center pin? If so then you have a 7-way.

In the off chance you do have a 6-way you would want the # ETBC6 instead as that's the same kit but with a 6-way.

Ideally you would run the fridge off of 12 volt battery and then use the charge wire for the battery.
