Is Weight Distribution Needed for a 2016 Ford F-250 and Rpod 178 Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2016 ford f 250 super duty crew cab swb and a r pod 178 I have a weight distribution hitch with a sway bar my question is do I need all this for the ford to pull the r pod or can I just use everything minus the spring bars basically do I need a weight distribution hitch to tow the r pod thanks

Weight distribution is recommended if the gross trailer weight is at least 50 percent of the gross truck weight or if the rear end of the vehicle sags or you experience steering, visibility, or braking issues when towing.
If none of that applies to your rig then you certainly don't have to use the spring bars in the set up. having them though does increase stability and will help to reduce sway beyond what the sway control unit alone can do.
It looks like the gross trailer weight of an Rpod 178 could be 50 percent of the gross weight of a 2016 Ford F-250 depending on how each is equipped. To me it seems like you would be better off using the spring bars then not using them but that is up to you. I have included a helpful link on weight distribution for you to view.
