How to Identify Weight Rating of Weight Distribution Springs Bars
Question:
I have no idea what TW the bars are for, they are pretty old and have a slight bend to them .Is there a way to check to see if they are worn out?

Expert Reply:
Unless there is obvious damage to your weight distribution spring bars - rust, chipped-off material, or a clearly inappropriate bend - they should still be functional. On a trunnion style bar like Reese # RP22225 there is a bend at the trailer end of the bar which engages with the dual cam sway control. On a round bar system there are bends at both ends.
The thing is you need to know the tongue weight they are rated for. Spring bars can look very much the same but be rated differently. Check for any part numbers cast into the bar, or for any sort of labelling that will help us identify the brand and rating. Please feel free to submit photos too.
