Recommended Grease for Blue Ox SwayPro System, Different Types of Grease

Question:

I have the Blue Ox Sway Pro WDS. I saw your info on the Molybdenum grease. Blue Ox also recommends using this grease to lube the hitch ball. I still new at RVing so could you also use the Reese hitch ball grease on the WDS? Or are the greases not for the same purpose. I also have a dry non-silicone lubricant spray. Could you use this on both the WDS or hitch ball? I guess I need guidance on when to use a lubricant, a spray or a grease on these parts. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thank you for your consideration.

You are correct that in the Blue Ox SwayPro Owner's Manual they do recommend use molybdenum grease on both the hitch ball and the spring bars. The LubriMatic Moly EP Grease # LM54FR in a grease gun, such as # L30480, will work well.

You could use the Reese White Grease Hitch Ball Lube # 58117 on the hitch ball of your SwayPro system if you choose not to use the molybdenum grease. However you would not want to use the hitch ball grease at the zerk fittings of the SwayPro spring bars.

The hitch ball grease, molybdenum grease, and the lubricant spray that you referenced are all different and used for different purposes. The hitch ball grease is specifically designed to use on trailer hitch balls and is designed so that it won't break down. The molybdenum grease is designed for better performance on parts that travel and where higher loads are encountered, such as at the spring bar arms. The lubricant spray that you referenced is typically used for helping to loosen components when they are stuck.

Since Blue Ox recommends using molybdenum grease for both the hitch ball and the spring bars, I recommend sticking with the molybdenum grease # L10314.
