Options for Replacing Broken Grease Zerk on Trailer Spindle

Question:

Hello, I have a 1998 Ram-lin boat trailer. It has the Posi-Lube spindle with the zerk on the end for greasing. Last night the zerk came out as I was trying to remove the grease gun not sure if it broke or pulled out. Yes, I was struggling to get it off and was trying everything. Can I get a replacement zerk to put in the end of the spindle or do I need a whole new unit? The dust caps say Posi Lube, not sure if that is the same as EZ-Lube being discussed here or not? From the pictures it looks the same. Not sure if the trailer info helps: RAM LIN Model 835 4WAAUER1XW1000113

I haven't been able to determine if the zerk on your Posi-Lube spindle is threaded or if it's a compression fit. We don't offer the Posi-Lube which is different from the EZ-Lube so I'd recommend calling the manufacturer, Rockwell American to see what they advise you to do.

If a replacement zerk isn't available, you can probably replace the spindle on that side, but you'll have to find somebody qualified who has the experience to do that type of precise welding.

Replacing the entire axle is also an option. We offer a few off-the shelf axle options, to see if any of the axles we offer would work for you, I'd need to know the hub face to hub face dimension and the center to center distance between the spring centers. I'd also need to know the axle's capacity, the wheel bolt pattern and the reference numbers from the inner and outer bearings. If you could reply with that information, I'd be happy to see if any of the axles we offer would work for you. I've provided a diagram showing the needed measurements.

Or, you could just pack the bearings in that hub by hand, the old fashioned way, which would work just fine.
