Will RockyMounts Lock Cores Work in TandemMount R4 Roof Bike Rack

We have a 2012 Murano with extra long Thule Crossbars. We want to use 2 of these racks to carry our long frame Burley and SWB Bachetta recumbents. However, we need to securely lock the bike for traveling across the country and leaving the bikes on the car overnight. Will either the regular RockyMount core locks or the RockyMounts Linkage Quick Release with Lock Core work with this rack? Although I didnt see these locks on your site, they are available on other sites. If they work and you can sell them, great. Thanks!

I have a solution for you to secure your bikes, and while we do offer RockyMounts Lock Core, such as # RKY0331, and the Locking Quick-Release Skewer # RKY0190, unfortunately neither of these products are compatible with the TandemMount R4 Roof Mounted Bike Carrier. We do not have a roof mount bike rack designed for recumbent bikes that allows the use of an integrated lock.

I spoke with my contact at RockyMounts and confirmed that this bike rack does not have a place to install a lock core and that the locking skewer is not compatible with the rack. The solution I have for you, and what RockyMounts recommends, is to use a cable lock wrapped around the bike, rack, and crossbar to secure it to the vehicle.

I recommend using a cable lock such as the 10 Foot Long Cable Lock # e98891. I like this cable lock because it offers a good amount of length and it can be keyed alike to a second cable lock for your other bike, so that both cable locks will use the same key. The cable is 10 feet long and has a diameter of 5/16 inch. Routing this locking cable through the bike, around the Tandem R4 rack, and around the crossbar will help deter those thinking of taking your bikes out for a joy ride.

The TandemMount R4 # RKY0512 is a great rack option for your recumbent bikes. It is designed to accommodate wheel based up to 78 inches long. A review video of the rack is attached for you.
