Using a Fuse Tap to Install a Firestone Air Compressor in a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic 2500HD
Question:
I have a 2007 Chevrolet 2500 HD classic crew cab 4wd long box duramax. I asked a question about what amperage of fuse to use on yellow ignition wire for f2541. The answer I received was the yellow wire does not have an amperage fuse rating needed. This circuit is just for letting the system know that the vehicle is on and does not draw any power. Any circuit that comes on only when the vehicle is on like the radio fuse would work well. I failed to mention I have an aftermarket fuse tap. I believe it has 14 gauge wire. Is it similar to the f2526 as in what gauge does the f2526 have? So if I put the fuse tap in an existing fuse location do I use the same amp fuse that was in there for say the radio fuse as well as for the yellow ignition wire? What is the max amperage of fuse I would need for yellow ignition wire? I read where fuse tap to wire your running to in this case the yellow ignition wire cannot exceed the amperage of fuse already there. That is why I asked. Do you think the fuse tap I have will work without any problems. Another question on the air filter. It says it has to be lower than the compressor. I was going to run mine into the cab under the dash somewher out of moisture and dust. Is this ok? As always thank you. You guys are great!

Fuse tap # F2526 is rated for 10 to 30 amp fuses. For your particular application and fuse tap using the same size fuse that was originally in the fuse location will work just fine. The yellow wire in question is pulling minimal, if any, amperage.
As long as you follow the mounting specifications of the filter and compressor you can mount them anywhere that is convenient/works best for you. Debris in the air lines tends to get trapped by the filter much better when it is positioned lower than the compressor. So to work properly it does need to be lower than the compressor.
