How To Wire To Charge Trailer Battery On A Jayco With 6-Way Square To Trailblazer With 7-Way Round
Question:
We just purchased a 2000 Jayco 14SO popup. It has the square 6 way plug with only 4 connectors plus the ground for only 5 actual connectors on the tongue of the trailer it has surge brakes, NOT electric. I had to temporarily rig a 6 way square to 4 way flat harness using the 7 way round to 4 flat on the vehicle to get it home. Will this adapter charge the battery, or would I be better off wiring a 6 way square into a 7 way round like what comes standard on our Trailblazer?

The Hidden Hitch Adapter 4 Way Flat to 6 Way Square for Jayco, # 30104, will provide lighting functions only. You will have turn signals, brake lights, and running lights. It will not provide power to charge your trailer battery.
To get a connection for charging the trailer battery your best bet would be to remove the connector on the trailer and install a 7-way connector that will plug into your 7-way round on your vehicle and the wires on the other end will be wired to your trailer.
I would recommend the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, part # H20042. When wiring this harness to the trailer, pay special attention to the color coding mentioned on the product description page. In order for the connector to work correctly, the correct color wire on the trailer connector needs to be connected to the correct wires on the trailer.
The black wire is the power wire that will supply current to the trailer battery and keep it charged.
You might use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, to test the functions on the trailer and the vehicle when wiring the connector.
