Recommended Roof Rack For A Nissan Rogue Carrying Kayaks

Question:

I have a Nissan Rouge and I bought a kayak carrier already. Does this rack #SR1002 fit on my car? Can it scratch something?

The SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack # SR1002 does fit on your vehicle if you have existing factory rails, however, many customers have bought this rack and have had issues fitting it to their vehicle, so I do not recommend the SportRack option. To determine what roof racks will fit your vehicle, we first need to know if there are raised factory rails or no existing rails on your vehicle.

If you do not have existing rails or crossbars I recommend the Thule Rapid Traverse Square Bars Roof Rack System consisting of the Thule SquareBars # TH712400, the Foot Pack # TH480R and Thule Roof Rack Fit Kit # THKIT1587. These bars will fit with most kayak carriers and can carry up to 165 lbs. However, be sure to check your vehicle manual to see how much weight your roof can hold and double check your kayak carrier to see what kind of roof rack it will fit on. This roof rack has a minimum spread of 23-5/8" and a maximum spread of 32".

If you do have existing factory rails that run front to back, I recommend the Inno Square Roof Rack consisting of the 50" Crossbars # INB127 and Inno Feet For Raised Side Rails # INFR. This roof rack is an economical choice and will be able to hold up to 220 lbs., but check your 2012 Nissan Rogue owners manual to see how much weight it can support. This crossbar can have a spread between 19-5/8" and 33-3/8".

When installed properly, both racks will not scratch your vehicle and using your kayak carrier will prevent contact between your crossbars and the kayak.

I have attached a review video of the Inno Square Crossbars and installation instructions for both cross bar kits you might want to look at as well.
