Replacement Wiring Recommendation For Small Trailer With No Brakes

Question:

I have a small trailer 8 ft by 4 ft, no brakes that I tow behind a Subaru. The original wiring kit was installed by the folks that put on the hitch but they sold me a thing with its own transformer which burnt out. From what I gather, that one was designed for a big trailer with brakes etc. I will never tow that. I need a simple kit if you have this.

If you are wanting to re-wire your trailer, we have just what you need.

For a small trailer with no brakes I recommend the Hopkins Endurance 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Harness, part # HM48240. This is a wishbone harness that has 2 separate, brown tail light wires which is nice so you do not have to tee intot the wiring for your running lights.

The left-side tail light wire is bundled with the yellow left turn/brake wire and the right-side tail light wire is bundled with the green right turn/brake wire.

There is also a 36-inch long white ground wire with a ring terminal on the end. You just need to secure it to a clean bare metal surface on the trailer.

I have attached a helpful article that explains trailer wiring you can check out.
