Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2014 Honda Odyssey with Yakima DoubleDown Ace 5

Question:

We have a Honda Odyssey 2014 minivan and are trying to determine if we can fit our old Yakima DoubleDown ACE 5 bike rack onto it. We are looking at hitches and wonder which you recommend. I gather clearance is an issue in general and so we are leaning towards the Curt hitch part no C13068. But I am wondering if you know if this combination leads to problems driving in and out of gas stations/ramps etc with the clearance of the rack off the back. We dont want to buy a hitch for this rack if really we need to go for a totally different solution. Can you help? We liked our old Curt hitch from etrailer.com on our old car worked well with the bike rack but that was then... THANKS!

Don't worry, I can help!

What we know about the Yakima DoubleDown Ace 5 is that the distance from center of hitch pin hole to upright bar of carrier is equal to 9 inches. This will help us determine if the Curt hitch # C13068, you were looking at will give us enough distance to clear the bumper of your Odyssey.

We have installed the Curt 2 inch hitch onto a 2014 Honda Odyssey and the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is 6 inches. From this we know that your Yakima bike rack will have plenty of clearance from your bumper.

The next thing we know about this hitch, from the install, is that it will give you a ground clearance of 13 inches from the ground. I looked back and found that your previous hitch had a ground clearance of about 14 inches, so this new Curt hitch will only be 1 inch lower than the previous and will have plenty of ground clearance to go in and out of the gas station or any ramped drive.

Knowing all this information, I would definitely recommend the Curt hitch # C13068 for you. The Curt hitch # C13068 also has better ground clearance than the other hitches that are offered for your Odyssey and will compatible with the weight capacity of the Yakima 5-bike rack you will be using in your hitch.

I have linked the hitch and an installation video of the Curt hitch to this page for your convenience.
