Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 High Country
Question:
I have been a loyal eTrailer.com customer for several years. I want to flat tow my 2016 Silverado 3500 HighCountry. You sell products for it, the manual says its towable, but everything says there must be a Neutral in the transfer case and a 4WD low setting. Is the neutral the same neutral as on the shift column? And, the 4WD low is the same as the one you dial up? I would REALLY appreciate your help. I want to buy the goodies for another auxially brake system. Please advise.

When your Silverado 3500 owner's manual refers to the transfer case and its neutral position this refers not to the column shifter but to either a floor-mounted manual shifter or to the dash-mounted electronic transfer case control knob. Both will have 4WD high and low settings indicated by up or down arrows and both will have a neutral position.
Flat towing a vehicle like your Silverado 3500 requires a number of components, all of which are outlined in the linked article. These include a tow bar, safety cables, a wiring/lighting kit, a high/low hitch adapter and base plates and a braking system for the vehicle.
For base plates for a 4WD I suggest the Blue Ox # BLU22QR kit since it has removable draw bars; these mean less chance of shin bumps as you walk around the truck. I suggest their Alpha tow bar # BX7380 since it includes safety cables; this is a motor-home-mount tow bar that slides into a 2-inch hitch receiver. A video on this tow bar is included.
For a wiring/lighting solution you can use either an easy-install magnetic light like # TL21RK, a bulb-and-socket kit # RM-155 which remains electrically separated from the vehicle, or a diode kit # RM-154 that wires into the truck's internal wiring. You may also want to use a wiring extension like 6-way # BX8862 or 4-way # BX8861.
For a braking system you can use the portable and wireless Patriot # BLU37TR which offers proportional braking to slow your toad along with your RV for less of that tug-of-war. Plus as a bonus it is easily transferred between vehicles.
I also linked our page for high/low adapters like # BX88235 which allow you to keep the tow bar level for best handling and steering.
