Base Plates for Flat Towing 2010 Dodge Ram Laramie 4x4 with Roadmaster Eagle Tow Bar

Question:

I have a Roadmaster Eagle 5000 that came with the 1995 Fleetwood Southwind motorhome I bought. Which baseplates do I need for my truck that will work?

Per the owner's manual, two wheel drive models cannot be flat towed, the vehicle would need to be trailered. Four wheel drive trucks can be towed with 4 wheels down, but you'll want to carefully follow the procedures outlined in the owner's manual.

The folks at Roadmaster tell us that their current base plates are compatible with your 2010 Dodge Ram truck and would work with your Eagle tow bar. If you have a 1500 series, you'd use the # 52289-1 base plate. If you use this base plate, you'll want to make sure that you have the # 910021-00 crossbar assembly, as well. For a 2500 series, you'd use # 292-3 or # RM-293-3 for a 3500 series.

You'll also need safety cables like # RM-643 if you don't have them already, a diode kit like part # RM-154 and a supplemental braking system like the Blue Ox Patriot Portable braking system # BLU37TR. The nice feature of a portable braking system is that it installs in just a couple of minutes, doesn't require a complicated and expensive installation and can be moved to a different vehicle later if need be.

If the height difference between the installed base plates and the receiver hitch on the motorhome is greater than 3 inches, you'll also want to use a high/low adapter to bring it within that range. I'll link you to an article that explains how to take that measurement as well as to our selection of adapters.
