Recommended Replacement Spring Bars for Blue Ox Sway Pro Weight Distribution System

Question:

Towing a 2016 Cruiser Stryker 2912 with a Ford F-150. Truck is 3.5 L twin turbo, max tow package, 3.55 gear ratio, rated for 11,600 lbs. Camper is 7600 lbs dry weight. Loaded with golf cart is about 9500 lbs. Tongue weight is right at 1000 lbs. Have a Blue Ox Sway Pro with 1000 lb bars. Experiencing a lot of sway, mostly with crosswinds. Can we upgrade existing hitch? Add additional sway control? Would appreciate any recommendations.

If your actual loaded tongue weight is 1000-lbs and you're using system # BXW1000 then you may simply be overloading it. The spring bars in this system work over a TW range from 750 to 1000-lbs. This particular system is ideally suited to a TW of 850 to 900-lbs.

Weight distribution spring bars like those on your Blue Ox Sway Pro need to be rated so that the fully-loaded trailer tongue weight (TW) falls near the middle of their operating range. This total TW needs to include the weight of anything sitting in the truck bed behind the rear axle, such as a generator or loaded cooler.

My contact at Blue Ox recommended the next step up in spring bars, part # BXW4008, which work over a TW range of 1000 to 1500-lbs. If your actual TW is 1000 to 1200-lbs then these heavier bars should do the trick.
