Should Blue Ox 1,000 Pound WD System be Upgraded for Trailer with 1,000 Pound Tongue Weight

Question:

I currently have the 1,000 lb. bars. My trailer tongue weight is 1,000 lbs. Are these ok or do I need to upsize to the 1,500 lb. bars. The bars I have now seem to do fine when pulling.

Expert Reply:

If your trailer's loaded tongue weight is at 1,000 pounds I do recommend upgrading your system by replacing the spring bars with the 1,500 pound # BXW4008. This will be a simple swap and they will work with the existing head on your Blue Ox System.

It's important to keep in mind that your total tongue weight also includes any added cargo weight you have stored behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. This along with your 1,000 pound trailer tongue weight would put you comfortably within the 1,000 to 1,500 pound range of the new bars. This is going to ensure adequate sway control as well as keeping both your truck and trailer level when hooked up.
