Recommended Wiring Kit to Power Boat Electric Winch on a 2016 Ram Larado 2500 Diesel w/2 Batteries
Question:
I have a 2016 Ram Larado 2500 6.7L Diesel w/2 batteries. I have a 9000lb winch for my boat. Ive looked into installing a battery on my boat trailer to power the winch. The truck came with a side by side strait 5 pin and a round 7 pin for RV hookup. Im looking for the best way to get power to my boat winch without causing damage to wiring and blowing a fuse. Do you have a 7 pin connector that I can wire my boat winch wiring too? Thanks

I have a solution for you but it will not be using your 7-way connector. The power draw of your winch will be too high for the small gauge wire that the 7-way provides.
I recommend using the Bulldog Trailer and Vehicle Electric Wiring Kit # BDW20207. This will allow you to run a plug from your engine compartment battery to the rear of your vehicle and a wire up your winch with a plug that will mate when needed for use. This heavy gauge wire will provide you with the power you need and won't burn up your 7-way in the process.
I have linked a video installation we did on a different truck for you to see how this wiring will be installed. In this video the winch is on a winch plate in the receiver but will be located similarly when installed on your boat trailer. In the video they mount the plug to a long bracket # C57202 which I've also linked to this page for your convenience.
