What Is Ground Clearance For Trailer Hitch On 2006 Subaru Legacy Wagon
Question:
Hi, I have the legacy wagon, not the outback, so it rides lower to the ground. Will the draw-tite give me enough ground clearance? Im looking at the 2inch receiver since I already have that equipment, and think it will be stronger than 1.25inch is that true? I will be occasionally towing a tear trailer that is 600 lbs empty, but I have some stuff in it maybe 200 #. Thanks

The Hidden Hitch, part # 87446 and the Draw-Tite, part # 75560 trailer hitches are made by the same manufacturer and are identical. I have attached a link to an installation video for the part # 87446 you can check out. As you can see in the video, the distance from the top of the hitch to the ground is 12-1/4 inches and the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the rear bumper is 6-1/4 inches.
You are correct that the Class lll hitch will have more strength than a 1-1/4 inch hitch will. It is much more versatile and a lot easier to find accessories that can be used.
If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
If you do not have trailer wiring on your Legacy I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118461. This plugs into the vehicle wiring located in the rear cargo area that will either be behind the driver side tail light assembly or in the spare tire compartment.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
