Weight Distribution/Sway Control System for Trailer w/ 6750lb GVWR and 900lb Tongue Weight
Question:
Can I use this WD Hitch Resse straight line duel cam # 66084 that you have for a trailer that has a GVWR 6750lbs and hitch wt of 650 lbs.? Is this overkill or is this a good choice? The hitch weight will be closer to 900 lbs when all is in.

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System you mentioned, part # RP66084 is rated for trailers that have a fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight ranging from 600-1200 lbs.
The trailer's fully loaded tongue weight will also include any gear carried in the bed of a truck behind its rear axle. If the fully loaded tongue weight is indeed in the 900-1000 lb neighborhood, the # RP66084 system you referenced would work perfectly for you. I've linked you to some FAQ articles about weight distribution. One shows how to confirm the fully loaded trailer tongue weight, which I highly recommend.
In other words, if your fully loaded Tongue Weight falls into the 600-900 lb range, the system wouldn't be overkill. Ideally, you want the trailer tongue weight of your trailer to fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system you choose.
